Two new reports surfaced in recent days detailing updates about Apple's upcoming foldable MacBook.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared in a post that Apple is considering an 18.8-inch foldable panel for the MacBook. When folded, the 18.8-inch MacBook will be roughly the same size as the 13-inch MacBook Air.

Kuo added that Apple is trying to make the panel "as crease-free as possible" through the use of "high design specifications" for the display panel and hinge. Hence, these two components are going to be very expensive with initial estimates of around US$600-US$650 for the panel and US$200-US$250 for the hinge.

The 18.8-inch foldable MacBook is expected to enter mass production in the first half of 2026 with a likely launch in the same year. Shipment is forecasted to exceed 1 million units in the first year.

Display analyst Ross Young has a similar report. He confirmed that Apple has plans for a foldable notebook with a display size of around 18.76 inches.

It has been more than two years since rumours of a foldable MacBook surfaced. In February 2022, Bloomberg claimed that Apple is developing a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid device

TheElec reported in February this year that Apple is working on a second foldable device with a 20.5-inch display. Kuo's earlier report in March also indicated a 20.3-inch MacBook in the pipeline for launch in 2027 while an investor note by Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu suggests a launch timeline of late 2025 for the 20.3-inch foldable device.
