Apple could enter the foldable market in 2027 with a MacBook.

Analyst Ming Chi Kuo revealed that the only foldable product with "a clear development schedule" in Apple's pipeline is a 20.3-inch MacBook, which is expected to start mass production in 2027.

Kuo's statement seems to suggest that Apple's plans to launch a foldable iPhone or iPad could still be in the prototyping phase.

A recent report by The Information states that Apple has been working on a foldable iPhone since 2018 and there are at least "two active prototypes" with a clamshell form factor.

Rumours of a foldable MacBook surfaced in February 2022 when Display Supply Chain Consultant (DSCC) analyst Ross Young claimed that the foldable MacBook could function as a notebook with a full-sized keyboard when folded, and a 4K or higher resolution monitor when unfolded with an external display.

Ross' claim was followed by a Bloomberg report stating that Apple is considering a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid which has one side of the display functioning as a virtual keyboard.

In the same year, Samsung shared its thoughts on Apple's first foldable device and believes it would be an iPad or Mac. TheElec also revealed in December 2022 that Apple has started work on a 20.25-inch MacBook with foldable screen.

As Apple is the only major phone brand to have no presence in the foldable market, it is no surprise that the company became the focus of rumours and speculation on its first foldable device.
