One of the big news surrounding the iPhone 16E is that it uses the new C1 modem – Apple's first in-house designed custom modem.
It's touted as the most power-efficient modem ever in an iPhone, but it could be even more power efficient if the modem is integrated into the A-series chip and Apple is said to be working on exactly just that.
In his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims Apple is looking to integrate its future C-series modems into the A-series processor and that it would happen "in 2028 at the earliest".
The benefits of an integration include freeing up valuable space for a bigger battery, higher power efficiency, and lower production costs.
Gurman added that Apple is already working on the C2 modem for next year, and the C3 modem for 2027 where the iPhone maker hopes to surpass Qualcomm's modem capabilities. Future C-series modems could also be used to bring cellular connectivity to MacBooks.
