The Apple 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2021) is the first iPad to sport a mini-LED display.
The first OLED MacBook could arrive later than initially planned.
Sources familiar with the matter told TheElec that Apple wanted to launch its first MacBook with OLED display in 2025, but the plan has been postponed due to cost considerations. As laptops and tablets can last longer than smartphones, Apple is reportedly trying to use a two-stack tandem structure on the OLED panel which doubles the material costs.
Apple is believed to be in talks with South Korean panel suppliers such as Samsung Display and LG Display. The OLED panels are also likely to be used for the iPad lineup, starting with the iPad Pro models which are expected to launch in late 2023 or 2024.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported last month that Apple dropped plans for an OLED iPad Air due to concerns about quality and costs. TheElec claimed previously that Apple had plans to launch three OLED iPads over the next two years. Nonetheless, Samsung Display is said to gearing up for more OLED orders from Apple next year and developing a new production process for OLED panels to be used on tablets, laptops and monitors.
