Apple has reportedly pushed back its plans to launch a MacBook Air with an OLED display.
Citing an industry source, TheElec claims the OLED MacBook Air is likely to launch in 2029 instead of the initial timeline of 2027. The delay is said to be caused by the sluggish sales of the iPad Pro (M4), which has an OLED display.
TheElec recently reported that LG is re-calibrating its production line from producing OLED panels for tablets and PCs to the iPhone. This has also reportedly pushed back the roll-out of the OLED iPad Air by an additional year to 2028.
Despite a delay in the switch to OLED, TheElec says Apple aims to equip the 2027 MacBook Air with an oxide TFT LCD panel. This display technology is currently used in the MacBook Pro, which offers better colour accuracy, higher contrast ratio, more consistent display brightness, and lower power consumption.
Fortunately for MacBook Pro fans, Apple's high-end laptop remains on track to switch to an OLED display alongside a "total redesign" in 2026.
