The design of the current-generation Apple MacBook Pro, which was introduced in 2021, is expected to remain unchanged for another year.

According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple has plans for a "total redesign" for the MacBook Pro in 2026. This means that the 2025 MacBook Pro with the M5 chip is unlikely to have significant design changes.

As for the 2026 MacBook Pro, it is expected to have an OLED display, which would deliver better visual quality and power efficiency. It would also enable Apple to design the MacBook Pro to be thinner and lighter. Apple has reportedly embarked on a mission to make its new range of devices to be "the thinnest and lightest in their categories across the whole tech industry".

Gurman says Apple initially aimed to introduce a new design of the MacBook Pro in 2025. However, the plan was pushed back due to delays in the display technology.

It is widely reported that Apple plans to switch to OLED for the MacBook Pro. In April 2023, Ross Young shared that OLED MacBook Pros could arrive in 2026.

He provided more insights in an October 2023 update by stating that Apple's supply chain partners need time to boost their capacity to produce OLED panels at the scale and quantity that Apple requires.

The 2026 timeline is also shared by analyst Jeff Pu, and Ricky Park, a senior principal analyst in Omdia's Display research practice

Apple has gradually shifted its products over to OLED over the past few years. The Apple Watch was the first product from the company to adopt OLED in 2015, followed by the iPhone X in 2017 and the iPad Pro earlier this year.
