Kenny's top computing deals from IT Show 2023

I went to the IT Show to suss out the best computing (notebooks, networking, storage) deals for you.

The IT Show is here! It's the first big physical tech show of the year and it's happening right now at Suntec Convention Centre levels 3 and 4. Just like om the good old days, there are lots to see and deals to be found if you look hard enough. I went down to have a look-see and here are the deals that I've found that I think you should check out.

Acer Nitro 5

The Acer Nitro 5 is an entry-level gaming notebook with decent specs at a great price. This has a 15.6-inch Full HD 144Hz display, Intel Core i7-12700H processor, 16GB memory, 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 GPU with 4GB GDDR6 memory. It also has Killer Wi-Fi 6 and Killer Ethernet. It's going for S$1,598 (U.P. S$1,998).

Aftershock Nova 16X

The Aftershock Nova 16X stands out amongst all my other picks because it has the latest 13th Gen Intel Core processor and NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics. The 16-inch display has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a high 240Hz refresh rate. Starting specs are a Core i7-13700HX processor, 16GB memory, 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU. Prices start at S$2,785 (U.P. S$3,135).

ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 Pro

Just launched, the ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 Pro is ASUS' newest flagship router. It supports Wi-Fi 6 and speeds of up to 1,148Mbps on its 2.4GHz network and 4,804Mbps each on its two 5GHz networks. Connectivity is excellent thanks to a single 10 Gigabit WAN/LAN port, a single 2.5 Gigabit WAN port, and four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. It is priced at S$759 and comes with a free ROG Ethernet cable.

ASUS Vivobook 14X

One of the best notebook deals that I found is the ASUS Vivobook 14X. This has a 14-inch FHD+ display and is powered by an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H processor with 8GB of memory and a 512GB PCIe 3.0 SSD. You can get it for S$799 (U.P. S$849) and it will come with a free upgrade to 16GB of memory.

Dell XPS 13

The Dell XPS 13 is one of the sleekest notebooks around and you can get it now at S$500 off. This model features a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB memory, 512GB memory, and integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics. The 13.4-inch display is FHD+ resolution. It's going for S$1,799 (U.P. S$2,299).

Dreamcore Atomic 14

The Atomic 14 is Dreamcore's ultraportable notebook. It's customisable but the starting point is a 14-inch QHD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Core i7-12700H processor, 16GB memory, and a 500GB PCIe 4.0 SSD. Prices start at S$1,299 (U.P. S$1,399).

Gigabyte Aero 14 OLED

The Aero 14 is Gigabyte's newest ultraportable notebook. It has a 14-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. It's powered by a Core i7-13700H processor and it has 16GB of memory. Despite being just 17mm thick and 1.49kg heavy, it has discrete graphics in the form of NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 4050 with 6GB of memory. It's priced at S$2,819 and will come with a free monitor light bar.

HP Spectre x360 16

The HP Spectre x360 16 is unique in that it's a 16-inch convertible notebook. The 16-inch display is OLED and supports 4K resolution and 100% of the DCI P3 colour space. It's powered by a Core i7-1260P processor with 16GB of memory and 1TB SSD. It has Intel Arc A370M graphics. It's going for S$2,473 (U.P. S$3,299) and comes with a free HP Zenvo stylus pen, a black leather sleeve, and an HP Elite USB-C hub.

Linksys Atlas Pro 6

The Linksys Atlas 6 Pro is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 mesh networking system. Its single 2.4GHz band supports speeds of up to 600Mbps while its 5GHz network is capable of delivering up to 4,800Mbps. It node has a single Gigabit WAN port and three Gigabit LAN ports. Linksys claims it can offer coverage of up to 8,100 sq. ft. It's going for S$629 (U.P. S$699) and comes with a free S430 Nets FlashPay card.

Microsoft Surface Pro 9

The Surface Pro 9 is a great detachable notebook but it's pricey. Thankfully, you can get it at a significant discount now. This model comes with a Core i5 processor with 16GB of memory and 256GB SSD storage. It's going for S$1,885 (U.P. S$2,218).

MSI Prestige 14 Evo

The MSI Prestige 14 Evo weighs just 1.29kg and is powered by a Core i7-1185G7 processor with 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD. Graphics duties are handled by the Intel Iris Xe integrated GPU. It's going for S$1,599 (U.P. S$1,899).

Netgear Orbi RBK863SB

This is Netgear's newest Orbi mesh networking system. The highlight of this system is that the main router has a 10Gbps WAN port, which makes it ideal for readers who have signed up for a 10Gbps plan. Elsewhere, the basic specifications are unchanged. This is a tri-band mesh Wi-Fi 6 mesh networking system that supports speeds of up to 1,200Mbps on its single 2.4GHz network and up to 2,400Gbps on each of its two 5GHz networks. It's going for S$1,698 (U.P. S$1,799).

SanDisk SSD Plus

If you need cheap and fast storage, check out the SanDisk SSD Plus. Available in 480GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities, these drives deliver sequential read and write speeds of up to 535MB/s and 350MB/s respectively. The best thing is how affordable they are.

The 480GB drive is just S$69 and comes with a free S$5 NTUC voucher. The 1TB version is S$125 and comes with a free S$10 NTUC voucher. The 2TB version is S$259 and comes with a S$15 NTUC voucher.

The Archer AX10 is one of the most affordable Wi-Fi 6 routers that I saw at the show. This is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router that supports speeds of up to 300Mbps on its 2.4GHz network and 1,200Mbps on its 5GHz network. Like most other routers, it also has a single Gigabit Ethernet WAN port and four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. One thing to note is that it doesn't have any USB ports. It's going for just S$66 (S$99).
