Passive cooling isn’t quite as sexy as liquid cooling – it is after all just a stack of heat fins compared to the sleek tubing and luminescent coolant of the latter – but there’s little to dislike about it when it works.
Best of all, it’s absolutely silent, and Palit has now announced the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti KalmX to appeal to mini-ITX system builders who want their system to be as unintrusive as possible.
The KalmX is a stark departure from current generation custom cards that often feature up to three fans. Even though these cards generally utilize semi-passive fans in order to reduce noise, there’s no beating a completely passively-cooled solution.
Palit’s new card is still something of a rarity in the market now, partly because passive cooling is only feasible on a lower-end card like the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

The card features a custom PCB design and a dual-slot aluminum heatsink with two heat pipes. It has a base clock of 1,290MHz and boost clock of 1,392MHz, the same as NVIDIA’s reference specifications. This is paired with 4GB of GDDR5 memory as on the reference design.
There are also no additional power connectors, and it is capable of running off the PCIe slot entirely as it draws no more than 75 watts.
Display output options include an HDMI 2.0b port, DisplayPort 1.4, and a single dual-link DVI-D connector.
There’s no word on price yet, but we’ll update when we know more. For a look at other custom GeForce GTX 1050 Ti cards, you can head to our round-up article here.
