MSI announces new Gaming X+ series with faster memory for the GeForce GTX 1060 and 1080

MSI has announced its brand new Gaming X+ and Gaming+ series of cards, comprising four Pascal-based NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060s and 1080s.

If you’re wondering why MSI needed to release a new series for relatively old cards, that’s because the new cards are equipped with faster memory specifications, following on NVIDIA's GDC announcement that it would sell cards with overclocked memory to vendors. 

Here’s a list of the four Gaming X+ cards announced so far:

• MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X+ 8G
• MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming+ 8G
• MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X+ 6G
• MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming+ 6G

The GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X+ 8G features 8GB of 11,110MHz GDDR5X memory, up from 10,108MHz on the previous Gaming X card.

Similarly, the GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X+ 6G comes with 6GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 9,126MHz, compared to 8,108MHz from before.

All the cards are cooled by MSI’s TwinFrozr VI cooler and are otherwise very similar to the older Gaming X and Gaming series of cards. For instance, they all feature the same base and boost clocks, semi-passive Torx 2.0 fans, and smooth heat pipes for channeling heat away from the copper base plate.

As with before, the Gaming X cards are also clocked higher than their Gaming counterparts.
