NVIDIA will sell GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1060 cards with overclocked memory to add-in card partners
NVIDIA has just announced at GDC 2017 that will begin offering its GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1060 graphics cards with overclocked memory to its add-in card partners.
One of the highlights of NVIDIA’s new and just announced GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is its super-fast memory.
The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will ship with memory running at a staggering 11,000MHz, which is great news for considering the intensive memory requirements of games these days.
And at the Game Developers Conference 2017, NVIDIA has announced it will begin offering their GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1060 GPUs with faster memory to their add-in card partners.
Specifically, NVIDIA will offer the GeForce GTX 1080 with the same 11,000MHz memory as the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, and this will be called the GeForce GTX 1080 11Gbps OC. This will boost the GeForce GTX 1080's memory bandwidth from 320GB/s to 352GB/s - an improvement of 10%.
It will also offer the GeForce GTX 1060 with faster 9,000MHz memory called the GeForce GTX 1060 9Gbps OC . This increases the GeForce GTX 1060's memory bandwidth from 192GB/s to 216GB/s - an improvement of 12.5%.
With these new variants, add-in card partners will be able to offer even faster, souped-up versions of the GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1060.
With AMD set to announce its new Vega GPUs soon, presumably this move is is to squeeze out whatever performance is left out of NVIDIA's existing GPUs.
It will be up to add-in card partners to take NVIDIA up on this offer since NVIDIA are not selling these cards directly to users, so no word on availability and pricing yet.
