As we move towards a new year, ASUS, MSI and Samsung have all individually come out with high-end 27-inch gaming monitors, with the ROG Swift PG27UCDM, the MPG 272URX QD-OLED and a downsized variant of the Odyssey OLED G8 being announced by these companies respectively.
Though the naming scheme might vary wildly between these three monitors, they share some common specifications, that being the 4K@240Hz package in a more compact 27-inch OLED display (although ASUS has specified a 26.5-inch viewable area for its entry). That might have to do with the three monitors seemingly sharing the same fourth generation Samsung QD-OLED panel, and all share the same 16:9 aspect ratio.
Although the offerings might be similar in terms of raw power, what they could also suggest is a trickling down of technology usually reserved for displays of bigger sizes. Samsung’s is perhaps the most obvious indicator of this, with the original Odyssey OLED G8, released in early 2024, having come in at a 32-inch size (and also announced ahead of that year's CES, as it happens).

A quick look at ASUS ROG and MSI’s product list paints a similar picture, as their new monitors are currently the only ones among them offering this exact combination of features. For those hoping for a high-spec monitor at a smaller size, this news certainly bodes well, and other manufacturers might be inclined to follow suit if these new monitors perform well with sales.
Other features that these monitors share include DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20 (for MSI; Samsung didn't specify in its press release), a response time of 0.03ms, and compliance with VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black. The ROG also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10. Pricing and local availability isn't out yet for these monitors, but we might hear more about them as CES 2025 starts up.
*Update*
While we still lack the pricing details for the MSI and Samsung displays, the ASUS ROG Swift PG27UCDM will be available in Singapore from the end of this month for S$1,679 from the ASUS website and the official ASUS stores on Lazada and Shopee.
