Live sports finally come to Immersive Video and the Apple Vision Pro.

Last year, it was announced that Apple, in partnership with Spectrum SportsNet, would air select LA Lakers games in Apple’s Immersive Video format. Well, that time has finally come.

The first game to be aired in Immersive Video is this Saturday’s game, where the Lakers host the Milwaukee Bucks. Thereafter, we’ll have three more games that stretch into March. This is the full schedule of games that will be aired in the Immersive Video format. All dates and times are in Singapore time.

  • 10 January, 11:30 am - Milwaukee Bucks vs. Los Angeles Lakers
  • 6 February, 11 am - Philadelphia 76ers vs. Los Angeles Lakers
  • 21 February, 11 am - Los Angeles Clippers vs. Los Angeles Lakers
  • 6 March, 11 am - Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets

The selection of games is tantalising since it’ll see LeBron and Doncic go up against the likes of Giannis of the Bucks, and the duo of Kawhi and Harden of the Clippers.

For those new to Immersive Video, it’s a new format developed specifically for the Apple Vision Pro that delivers 8K visuals, spatial audio, and strong depth cues to create the illusion that the viewer is in the midst of the action.

I’ve said in the past that Immersive Video as a format lends itself exceedingly well to live sports broadcasts, and now we are finally going to get a taste of it. It’ll be interesting to see how owners will react and if Apple will make this a permanent fixture for the Vision Pro.

How to watch?

To watch these games in Singapore, download the NBA app and create a free NBA ID. Open the NBA app, and you should be able to watch the game for free when it goes live. The NBA League Pass is required to watch traditional live game broadcasts.
