Slightly more than a month after announcing its intention to make a comeback, Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky unveiled two new watches: the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2.
Core 2 Duo
As the successor to the Pebble 2, the Core 2 Duo is stated to have a 30-day battery life (up from 7 days) thanks to a new more power-efficient Bluetooth chip.
It also has a speaker, more durable buttons (up to 30% longer lifetime in testing), and barometer and compass sensors.
The Core 2 Duo retains the 1.26-inch e-paper black and white display, polycarbonate frame, and step and sleep tracking features.
Core Time 2
Touted as Pebble's dream watch, the Core Time 2 is the flagship model with better specs such as a 64-colour 1.5-inch e-paper display with touchscreen functionality, a metal case, and a heart rate monitor.
Compared to the Pebble Time 2, the Core Time 2 offers 53% bigger and 88% more pixels for text and details on the display, and less glare and reflections with a flat glass lens (versus curved lens).
Similar to the Core 2 Duo, the Core Time 2 also has a battery life of up to 30 days. More importantly, both watches run on the open-sourced PebbleOS.
This means the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 support most of the existing 10,000+ PebbleOS watch faces and apps. Apart from an updated SDK for creating new PebbleOS watch faces and apps, a companion mobile app for Android and iOS will also be released.
