The Pebble watch is making a comeback after nearly 10 years.
Pebble founder, Eric Migicovsky announced that he is building a company to make a new watch.
His dream for a new Pebble was made possible as Google recently open-sourced PebbleOS at the request of Migicovsky.
How did Pebble's intellectual property end up in the hands of Google? Well, Fitbit acquired Pebble in 2016. Three years later, Google acquired Fitbit.
Migicovsky shared that he expected smartwatches to evolve significantly, but he is disappointed that none in the market offers the features he wants.
The "core set of features" are an always-on e-paper screen, long battery life, simple and beautiful user experience, buttons (e.g., play/pause/skip music) and hackable (e.g., having customisable watchfaces).
Migicovsky added that the new watch will have the same specs and features as Pebble, with "some fun new stuff".
There is no specific timeline as to when the new watch will arrive, but you can register your interest at rePebble.com.
