Future Meta Quest Pro headsets might be built by LG.
According to Maeil Business Newspaper, Meta is believed to be partnering the LG Group for future Quest Pro headsets. The report claims LG Electronics will be responsible for producing microOLED displays supplied by LG Display, batteries from LG Energy, and other components from LG Innotek.
The first LG-made Quest Pro headset is estimated to launch in 2025 with a price tag of US$2,000. Judging from the launch timeline and price tag, it is likely that Meta wants to offer an alternative to the Apple Vision Pro. The Apple Vision Pro is slated to launch in the U.S. early next year with a whopping price of US$3,499.
Mark Zuckerberg reportedly thinks that the Apple Vision Pro does not offer any "magical solutions" that Meta hasn't already explored. Zuckerberg also believes Meta shares different values and vision for the metaverse. With Samsung and Google also joining the fray, it would be interesting to see how the LG-made Quest Pro stacks up against the competition.
