Future Apple Watches could become AI devices with the inclusion of built-in cameras.
Bloomberg reports that Apple is working on several versions of future Apple Watch models with cameras. The cameras will enable the Apple Watches to "see the outside world", which could then be used to support the Visual Intelligence feature.
To recap, Apple rolled out Visual Intelligence as part of the iOS 18.2 update. By clicking and holding the Camera Control button, Visual Intelligence allows you to learn more about a place or object, translate text, identify plants and animals, and more.
According to the Bloomberg report, Apple plans to embed the camera within the display of the standard Apple Watch model. The company is also considering placing the camera beside the digital crown and Action button in the Apple Watch Ultra.
That said, it's unclear how Apple expects users to use the cameras. Given the way we wear watches, taking photos with them will likely be a somewhat awkward task.
These Apple Watch models with cameras are expected to launch in 2027 alongside the rumoured AirPods with cameras. The wireless earbuds are rumoured to have infrared cameras that could improve the spatial audio experience and integrate with the Apple Vision Pro. Due to the recent restructuring of the Siri team, the launch of these products could be delayed.
