Mike Rockwell, the creator of the Apple Vision Pro, will reportedly lead the Siri team.

Apple is said to have reorganized the Siri team after several Apple Intelligence setbacks.

Bloomberg claims that Vision Pro chief Mike Rockwell is now leading the Siri team after Apple CEO Tim Cook "lost confidence in the ability of AI head John Giannandrea to execute on product development".

To recap, Apple hired Giannandrea in 2018 to lead its "machine learning and AI strategy. Giannandrea, however, is still at Apple and will continue to oversee AI research and development.

According to the Bloomberg report, the management shift had been long planned before the announcement of the Siri delay. Furthermore, Giannandrea "long considered Rockwell a potential successor".

Getting Siri back on track will be an uphill task for Rockwell. Since its debut in 2011, the Siri team has seen a fair share of reshuffling, and the product has mostly struggled to match or even catch up to the competition.

Dag Kittlaus, the co-founder of Siri, parted ways with Apple in 2011. Bill Stasior was hired in 2012 to replace Kittlaus and led the Siri team for 7 years before leaving his role as part of the AI strategy revamp by Giannandrea.

A Reddit user recently discovered that Siri still struggles to understand and answer simple questions (e.g., what month it is). In comparison, ChatGPT can engage in human-like conversations, help with your writing, solve math equations, and even draft a resume.
