Even though Apple reportedly scrapped the microLED Apple Watch Ultra project earlier this year, a new report claims that the company hasn't given up on the product and plans to bring the display technology to an additional device.

Tipster @Jukanlosreve shared on X that Apple is working to bring microLED to AR glasses and mass production will likely begin sometime in 2026.

The launch timeframe for the AR glasses seems dubious as Bloomberg reported last month that Apple is still in the experimental stage and it could be years before the AR glasses arrive in the consumer market.

@Jukanlosreve added that the microLED Apple Watch Ultra project is still going ahead with a target debut in 2026. Apple was previously said to be working on the project, but high manufacturing costs of the new display technology were cited as one major challenge for the company.

To be clear, Bloomberg said that Apple hasn't given up on microLED and that the company is still investing in the display technology for future products.

In the meantime, the iPhone maker has to deal with a purported compensation request from LG Display for the cancelled microLED Apple Watch Ultra project.

Two other major suppliers involved in the project – ams Osram and Kulicke & Soffa – could follow in the footsteps of LG Display and seek compensation of their own.
