As part of Singtel’s e-waste management efforts, it provides e-waste collection bins at selected Singtel shops to encourage the public to drop off their unwanted electronic devices. These devices will be recycled or refurbished and donated through its partnerships with organisations like Engineering Good. These efforts have enabled Singtel to collect, recycle and refurbish a total of 1,000 tonnes of e-waste in FY2023. Image source: Singtel.
During Singtel’s inaugural Singtel LEAD thought leadership forum held at Marina Bay Sands today, the telco shared its environmental ambitions towards a net-zero target by 2045.
Yuen Kuan Moon, Singtel’s Group Chief Executive Officer, added that the telco would be extending eSIMs to postpaid customers by the middle of the year. However, customers will still have the option of asking for a physical SIM should they prefer one. We previously covered Singtel’s 5G prepaid eSIM support for tourists visiting Singapore.
Yuen added:
There is no time to waste if we want to avoid the worst effects of the climate crisis. This is why we’re pushing ourselves to go further and faster, with more aggressive SBTi climate commitments and bringing forward our net-zero target from 2050 to 2045.
In a further nod towards environmental sustainability, Singtel will also no longer give out complimentary bags at its shops and will work with its partners to cut back on packaging materials.
