Joining the anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note20 series smartphones are the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series tablets, which were announced at Samsung's virtual-only Unpacked livestream on 5 August 2020.

Two variants mark the current generation of Samsung's Android-based tablet - they are the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+. In a way, the Tab S7 is the successor of the Tab S6, while the larger Tab S7+ is the rivalling equivalent of Apple's 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Top Features

Collectively, the new Galaxy Tab S7 models will see overall enhancements in productivity-related matters. An important redesign goes to the S Pen, where the included stylus now has lower pen latency (9ms, down from the previous 96ms), which works with the 120Hz refresh rate displays on both models. This upgrade makes the stylus front-and-center of the Galaxy Tab user experience in Tab S7 and Tab S7+.

Other device-wide enhancements include an improved App Pair feature within the quick-fire Edge Panel. App Pair can bind three apps (instead of just two) to trigger Multi-Active Window on the generous tablet screen instantly. With the additional app that Tab S7 and Tab S7+ can support on-screen, Multi-Active Window itself is also flexible, allowing up to three instances in left/right and up/down split views.

Minor tweaks were also made to Samsung Note, where it can import PDF files for annotation, on top of a new Audio Bookmark feature that syncs voice recorded notes with written ones. Samsung Dex also had an interface face-lift, making it closer to a PC-like experience despite its Android-based roots.

With the increased need for teleconferencing and video-based conference calls, Samsung decided to move the 8MP front camera from the top of the device to the side - making it far more convenient for Zoom and Google Meet video calls.

Besides S Pen, other popular features are also coming to the Tab S7 series, such as the tablet's quad-speaker setup, tuned by AKG with Dolby Atmos support.

The Tab S7 series can also become a central component of a smart home ecosystem, with existing connectivity solutions like SmartThings, Samsung Flow file transfer, and Samsung Family Hub.

Key Specs

The Galaxy Tab S7+ has a 12.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,800 x 1,752 pixels and 120Hz refresh rate. The smaller, regular Galaxy Tab S7 uses an 11-inch LTPS TFT display at 2,560 x1,600 pixels resolution with 120Hz refresh rate. While both are Android 10 tablets powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor, only the Galaxy Tab S7+ is 5G-ready, while the regular Tab S7 supports only up to LTE connectivity. Both devices support up to Wi-Fi 6.

While both tablets have 45W Super Fast Charging, the Tab S7 comes with a 8,000mAh battery capacity. Tab S7+, being the larger of the two, packs a whopping 10,090mAh battery.

Fingerprint unlocking differs between both tablets, with the Tab S7 incorporating the fingerprint sensor within its power button. The Tab S7+ packs an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Sold separately are the tablet covers for the Tab S7 and S7+, called Book Cover and Book Cover Keyboard. The latter now features Function keys (F1 to F12), an OS key, slighty larger key size, and a larger trackpad, when compared to the predecessor's Book Cover Keyboard for the previous tablet.
