iOS 9 code hints of new keyboard and screen resolution for Apple iPad Pro
Apple's upcoming iOS 9 code reveals two clues that Apple is actually preparing to launch a larger iPad this year. One of the clues suggests the possible screen resolution while the other hints of a keyboard that can scale up to fit a larger iPad display. Read on to find out more!
This is how the iOS 9 keyboard will look on a larger display with the new Tab and Caps Lock keys, and a new top row of symbols.
With the iOS 9 SDK released, developers have started playing around with the code and uncovered some clues pointing to a larger iPad.
According to developer Steve Troughton Smith, the iOS 9 keyboard is able to scale up to fit a larger display with the addition of a Tab and Caps Lock key at the left side. There is also a new row of symbols on the top of the keyboard.
That's not all. Taiwanese developer Hiraku Wang discovered from the keyboard size that the iPad Pro is likely to come with a display resolution of 2,732 x 2,048 pixels. If rumors of a 12.9-inch display are true, this works out to a pixel density of 263ppi which meets Apple's standard for a Retina display. For reference's sake, the current 9.7-inch iPad Air 2 has a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels (264ppi).
Apple showed off the iPad's split-screen multitasking feature last week at WWDC 2015 which allows you to run two apps side-by-side simultaneously. While the iPad Air 2 is the only model that can support this feature, it hints that Apple is paving the way for a larger iPad.
Other alleged specs of the iPad Pro include four integrated speakers, two ports (Lightning and USB Type-C), 7.2mm thin design, Bluetooth stylus, Force Touch, NFC and multi-user support.
