Huawei says that its new MatePad 12 X has an “X” branding as it embodies “extreme” and “explore” to encourage its users to “break free from their comfort zones, discover new talents, and pursue their goals with confidence”.

Of late, it seems as though big is the way to go for tablets and their manufacturers. We’ve seen the MatePad 11, 11.5"S and now the 12 from Huawei.

To do that, it has either a green or metallic white, all-metal, aluminium alloy body, weighing only 555g and 5.9mm thin. Like the MatePad 11.5”S, it uses HarmonyOS 4.2, has a PaperMatte display with a 2.8K (2800 x 1840) resolution, up to 1000 nits of brightness, and 16.7 million colours. It has 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The battery is a large 10,100mAh that Huawei says is good for up to 14-hours of video playback. We reached out to Huawei about the processor used but received no reply. But online reports have it using the Octa-core Kirin T90A.

But where the MatePad 11.5”S had quad speakers, the MatePad 12 X has six speakers that use “Huawei Sound’s” high-resolution spatial model algorithm with high/low frequency division to provide crisp and full sound for film buffs and audiophiles.

In terms of its camera, on the rear you’ll find a dual camera setup consisting with a 13MP primary and 8MP ultra-wide. On the front is an 8MP that can take up to 1080P video @30fps.

Like most Huawei devices, it comes with Huawei’s SuperHub technology so you can drag and drop text, images, videos, and songs, to paste, transfer, and share them with connected devices including PCs and phones. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

Huawei Notes has been updated with smart features that help you be more organised. The new Multi-Note and One-Touch Split Screen options allows for seamless viewing and comparison of multiple notes side by side.
