The current Apple 12.9-inch iPad Pro (6th gen).
As predicted earlier this year, Apple is expected to be planning for a major update of the iPad Pro in 2024.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims the 2024 iPad Pro will be "the first major update to the product since 2018."
Gurman added that the new iPad Pros, codenamed J717, J718, J720 and J721, will be powered by the upcoming M3 chips, which will first show up in refreshed Mac notebooks later this year. The 2024 iPad Pro will also be the first tablets from Apple to sport OLED displays. The 2024 iPad Pro lineup is expected to consist of the 11-inch and 13.0-inch models. The current iPad Pro utilize Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED displays and as brilliant as they are now, it can only get better with an OLED display.
Apple is reportedly using a thinner hybrid OLED panel for the 2024 iPad Pro, which will be manufactured by LG Display and Samsung Display. The thinner hybrid OLED panel is stated to have a glass substrate similar to rigid OLED, and a thin-film encapsulation (TPE) like that of a flexible OLED.
Besides the new iPad Pro models, Apple is said to be introducing a new Magic Keyboard that will make the tablet look even more like a notebook. The new Magic Keyboard also has a bigger trackpad.
The current Magic Keyboard's trackpad measures 10cm x 5cm, which isn't as big as the ones on the MacBooks. Despite its smaller dimensions, we found the trackpad to work just as well.
Gurman estimates that the M3-powered iPad Pro with OLED is slated for launch in spring or early summer 2024. Having said that, consumers should not expect to see new iPad Pro models until then. The other models in the iPad lineup might get minor updates later this year.
