Is a bigger battery the way to go, instead of slimmer phones?
That’s probably what Xiaomi was thinking when it announced the Redmi 15 5G, its entry-level phone offering for 2025. This 8.6mm handset steamrolls its user with a substantial 7,000mAh battery, and Xiaomi claimed it can offer 59 minutes of phone calling at the 1% mark.

To milk its ample stores, the battery is supported by 33W wired charging and 18W reverse charging for other devices. Supporting the battery’s longevity are features like Smart Charging Engine 2.0 and Battery Health 4.0.
Additional battery longevity perks help the Redmi 15 5G’s product life cycle.
For reference, previous Redmi and Redmi Note phones were more modest in this department. For example, Redmi Note 14 Pro had 5,110mAh, while the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ (review here) had 5,000mAh.
High refresh rate and IP durability

While it keeps costs low with an IPS LCD panel, the 6.9-inch Full HD+ display still offers a maximum 144Hz refresh rate, 288Hz touch sampling rate, and triple eye comfort certifications (TÜV Rheinland’s Low Blue Light, Flicker-Free, and Circadian Friendly viewing).
Despite its entry-level positioning, the handset boasts an IP64 rating for dust and water protection, rendering it splash-resistant. To take advantage of its rated durability, the display still works with damp fingers with the help of Wet Touch Technology 2.0.
Keeping up its basic performance is the entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset, the predecessor to 2025’s equivalent mobile platform (Gen 4).
To compensate for an older component, the Redmi 15 5G features 50MP AI dual cameras (main and ultrawide), along with advanced editing tools such as AI Erase, AI Sky, and Dynamic Shots (Xiaomi’s version of Live Photos, as seen here).

For its audio prowess, the phone has Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos, providing users with high-definition sound despite its budget categorisation. Also added is “200% volume boost”, which sounds like an absolute pleasure (or menace) depending on who uses it, and where.
Rounding off its package is the Xiaomi HyperOS 2 operating system with Google’s slate of AI perks like Circle To Search and Gemini.
Oh, folks who love having MicroSD card-friendly handsets would be pleased to hear it supports 2TB expandable storage, which can give you more room to tap into its Memory Extension feature to get up to 16GB of virtual RAM.
