You can now get in queue for the ultra-secure Turing Phone

The Turing Phone is billed to be one of the most secure smartphones ever built, and Turing Robotics Industries has just created a web form to take reservations.

Security above all

As it says on their website, the Turing Phone is a “revolutionary liquid-metal phone that not only redefines phone engineering, it also paves the way for trustworthy communication.” Turing Robotics Industry says their Android smartphone puts security, durability, and fashion above all, and the Turing Phone certainly is anything but conventional.

For starters, the phone is made of a material the company calls “Liquidmorphium”, which is supposed to be an amorphous liquid metal alloy that’s tougher than titanium and steel. Just as tough, is the end-to-end decentralized authentication scheme that Turing Robotics has built for themselves. This authentication scheme relies on your phone’s private key, and so is fully functional offline, keeping your phone insulated from malicious behavior.

The Turing Phone is fully waterproof thanks to nanocoating that shields its internal components, and has a fingerprint scanner as well as a 13-megapixel camera and non-removable 3,000mAh battery and integrated NFC. Because it’s based on Android 5.1, the phone will also allow full access to Google Play and the assorted apps available there. What it doesn’t have though, is a headphone jack or a USB connector. Instead, charging is available via proprietary plug that looks similar to Apple’s MagSafe connector called the Wallaby Magstream.

The Turing Phone even comes with its own secure currency called Turing Coin that presumably will work like Bitcoin, allowing you to make purchases with your phone in the future. With an older 2.5Ghz Snapdragon 801 chip and a 5.5-inch 1080p display made of Corning Gorilla Glass IV, the Turing phone certainly doesn’t boast the latest in hardware, but the company’s approach to security is certainly something that stands out amongst the current competition.

The Turing Phone will be available in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB variants for US$610, US$740, and US$870 when it is released in a choice of Beowulf, Pharaoh and Cardinal color schemes sometime this summer.
