Unbreakable and unhackable Turing Phone delays shipping date

People who ordered the all-liquid metal Turing Phone will see delays up to March 2016, and the company is offering compensation with free upgrades or full refunds.

If you pre-ordered the Turing Phone earlier this year, you would have gotten the bad news by now – that the ultra-secure, all-liquid metal smartphone will be delaying their projected 18 December 2015 shipping date to somewhere in end-Q1 of 2016.

To quell the disappointment, buyers who pre-ordered a Turing Phone will get an upgrade to their existing order. According to a Turning Robotics Industries (TRI) explanatory letter published on Android Police, buyers of the 16GB version will instead receive the 64GB model. Buyers who chose the 128GB version will be getting a limited edition 128GB in return. The makers of the Android OS smartphone also made a full-refund option available, if the user chooses not to wait for the new pre-order date. The shipment was delayed in favor for more time to integrate the phone’s proprietary encryption with Android OS – such as securing Google Play.

If you missed out on the Turing Phone’s original announcement, here’s a brief re-cap on its features. The smartphone boasts an all-liquid metal alloy (liquidmorphium) chassis alloy that’s tougher than titanium and steel, and a nanoparticle waterproofing coating material on both inside and out, for high levels of durability. It also touts TRI’s proprietary end-to-end authentication system, as every Turing Phone comes with a unique encryption key. Yet, each Turing Phone is capable of directly verifying the identity of other Turing devices, creating an enclosed secure network where its slated to be safe enough for exchanging sensitive data between like-minded users.

The Android 5.1 (Lollipop) OS smartphone is so secure, that the phone uses its own currency (Turing Coin, which should work like BitCoin) for any transactions done on it. We’ve also include a snapshot of the detailed specifications for reference, straight off the official Turing Phone website.

The Turing Phone was available for pre-order in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB variants for US$610 (~S$ 854), US$740 (~S$1,036), and US$870 (~S$1218). It is by US-based Turing Robotics Industries, which was founded based on Alan Turing’s work in mathematics, artificial intelligence, and cryptography.
