Declining global smartphone shipments in the past few months had forced Sony to reduce the capacity of its image sensor production. Thanks to the recent launch of several flagship smartphones, Sony will be pushing its image sensor production to full capacity in the second half of the business year (October 2016 to March 2017).

According to Reuters, President Yasuhiro Ueda of Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp revealed during a news conference yesterday that the business environment is improving as smartphone demand picks up.
