Samsung's second gen Gear VR features improved comfort and a wider field of view

Along with the Galaxy Note7, Samsung announced the second-generation Gear VR at Samsung's Unpacked event today.

The new Gear VR ditches the white plastic of the first generation model and now sports a sleeker blue and black design. Samsung has also made some improvements to the back of the headset, with more padding and a longer strap for increased comfort when wearing the headset for long periods.

The new Gear VR also features a wider field of view, with viewing angles increased from 96 degrees to 101 degrees.

To go with the Note7's new USB Type-C charging port, the second-generation Gear VR also sports a USB Type-C port. Like the Note7, an adaptor will be supplied with the device to ensure you can still use your own micro-USB charging cables.

Other improvements include a redesigned touchpad, which is now flat instead of recessed, and a dedicated Home button (previously you had to long press the back button to get back to the Oculus home page).

The new Gear VR will be available for S$148 (same as the current headset) on 19th August and will support the Note7 as well as all models supported by the first-generation Gear VR.
