The Galaxy Note7 is Samsung's most advanced device yet

Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy Note7 at the company's Unpacked event in New York today. The 5.7-inch device boasts a number of firsts for Samsung: it's the first dual-curved display and IP68 Note device, and it's the first Samsung device with an iris scanner and a USB Type-C port.

Samsung skipped the Note 6 and went straight to 7 to align the Note with its siblings the S7 and S7 Edge. All three devices share similar features, so it should cause less confusion among consumers.

Like the S7 and S7 Edge, the Note7 boasts an IP68 dust and water resistant build. The Note7's S Pen Stylus is rated IP68 too. 

The Note7 has a 5.7-inch dual curved always-on display (like the S7 Edge) with a 2,560 x 1,440 pixels resolution (518ppi). 

The Note7 also uses the same rear and front camera modules as the S7 and S7 Edge. On the back, there's a 12-megapixel, f/1.7, 1/2.6-inch sensor camera with phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilisation, while on the front, there's a 5-megapixel f/1.7 selfie camera. As a device aimed at productivity, Samsung has given the Note7 some extra security compared to the S7 and S7 Edge. For the first time on a Samsung device, the Note7 has an iris scanner as well as a fingerprint scanner on the home button.

Inside the Note7 is Samsung's latest Exynos 8890 processor paired with 4GB RAM. This octa-core processor is the same one found inside the S7 and S7 Edge.

In terms of storage, there's 64GB internally, and a microSD card slot that doubles up as the second SIM card slot and supports memory cards up to 256GB in capacity.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be available on 20th August for S$1,168 in the Onyx Black, Titanium Silver, and Gold Platinum colors. Registration of interest for pre-orders starts tomorrow.
