Samsung reportedly wants the image sensor of the Sony Xperia Z5 for the Galaxy S7
Samsung is reported to be in an aggressive negotiation with Sony to buy the IMX300 image sensor found in the Xperia Z5 series for use in its upcoming Galaxy S7.
The 23-megapixel image sensor of the Sony Xperia Z5 is so good that Samsung wants it inside the Galaxy S7.
"The world's best camera in smartphone" has reportedly caught the attention of the world's biggest smartphone manufacturer.
According to Chinese reports, Samsung is alleged to be aggressively negotiating with Sony to purchase the IMX300 image sensor - used in the Xperia Z5 series - for its upcoming Galaxy S7. It is said that Samsung was very impressed with the performance of the IMX300 image sensor.
The Xperia Z5 was recently crowned the best camera phone by DxOMark; it claimed to have the best image stabilization which is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition, and the best autofocus to date. That's where the problem lies - will Sony keep the IMX300 image sensor exclusive to its Xperia Z5 series or give in to the high likelihood of bringing in huge profits from selling the image sensors to Samsung for use in the Galaxy S7?
When Samsung introduced the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge in March, some users discovered that their devices come with different image sensors. Will Samsung be deploying the same strategy for the Galaxy S7? We will know when the Galaxy S7 arrives in January 2016.
