Apple is off to a good start for its iPhone lineup this year with four million pre-orders for the new iPhone 6 models in the first 24 hours of availability. This does not come as a surprise since stocks ran out on the Apple Online Store (Singapore) within two hours.
According to Apple Insider, Apple commented that the demand has already exceeded the initial pre-order supply which caused many orders to be scheduled for shipment in October.
"iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are better in every way, and we are thrilled customers love them as much as we do," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple, and we can't wait to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers starting this Friday."
In comparison, Apple managed to secure two million pre-orders for the iPhone 5 in the same duration two years ago. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are slated for a launch in 10 countries this Friday, September 19 which include the U.S, the U.K, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico and Singapore.
Judging from how the demand for the new iPhones crashed the websites of telcos worldwide, it is likely that Apple will set another sales record for the weekend. For reference's sake, Apple sold 9 million units of the iPhone 5S and 5C in just three days last year.
The three telcos in Singapore have released their price plans for the new iPhones, which also saw the roll-out of more expensive mobile plans for customers. However, charges for the 4G VAS were waived across the board.
