Nothing has been on a roll lately, with the Phone (2a) Plus announced shortly after the Phone (2a), which won our Best Value award. Now, there’s the new Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro, both launching at the same time.

The Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro have received some major upgrades this year, with the most notable one being the inclusion of an optical zoom lens in both models. The lower-end Phone (3a) gets a 50MP 2x optical lens, while the higher-end Phone (3a) Pro gets a 50MP 3x optical periscope zoom lens that’s paired with a 1/1.95-inch Sony LYTIA 600 sensor.

Both phones come with a 50MP main and 50MP ultrawide camera, although only the Phone (3a) Pro comes with a 50MP selfie camera while the Phone (3a) has to settle for a 32MP selfie camera.

The classic Nothing design aesthetic is retained, but has been upgraded this year with a new glass back compared to the polycarbonate material from before. The Phone (3a) looks similar to the Phone (2a), merely with an added camera on the rear. But the Phone (3a) Pro now has a proper circular camera bump on the rear to accommodate that periscope zoom.

Both phones get an upgraded IP64 rating and the Glyph Interface LED backlights encircle the camera bump. Features like Flip to Glyph, Glyph Timer and more are still available, but just like before, there are only 26 individually addressable zones as compared to the Nothing Phone (2)’s 33 zones.

Both models also sport a 5,000mAh battery that supports faster 50W wired charging. Nothing says a full charge from 1-100% will only take "56 minutes".

The flexible AMOLED display is ever-so-slightly larger now at 6.77 inches with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to 3,000-nits peak brightness, 10-bit colour and up to 1,000Hz touch sampling rate in gaming mode. This time around, Nothing has opted for Panda Glass, which is an alternative to Corning’s Gorilla Glass. We’ll be testing it out in our review to see how it holds up to normal daily use.

Inside, Nothing has shifted away from the MediaTek Dimensity chipsets, equipping both phones with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 instead.
