Just 8 days into the new year, HMD Global announced the first Nokia smartphone to be powered by Google Android OS.

Known as the Nokia 6, the handset sports an aluminum unibody chassis with a 5.5-inch Full-HD display, a Snapdragon 430 processor, 4GB RAM, Android 7.0 Nougat, 64GB internal storage space, microSD support, a 16-megapixel autofocus rear camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera and a 3,000mAh battery.

The Nokia 6 will be available exclusively in China through JD.com for a retail price of 1,699 yuan (~S$353). It will hit retail shelves sometime in early 2017 and more Android smartphones with the Nokia branding will be launched in the first half of the year.

Consumers should look out for new Nokia smartphones next month at Mobile World Congress 2017. HMD Global is also said to be releasing up to 7 Nokia smartphones by the end of the year including four models in Q2 and Q3. In December 2016, HMD Global unveiled a pair of Nokia-branded feature phones for select markets in APAC, IMEA and Europe.
