Microsoft: The free upgrade for Windows 10 Mobile will continue past July 29

This is certainly good news for eligible Windows Phone 8.1 users who have yet to upgrade their handsets. The bad news is, there's still no word how long this offer will last.

If you've gotten a Lumia 950 or 950 XL, you're already on Windows 10.

In case you missed it, Microsoft’s free Windows 10 upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.x PCs will expire on July 29. But what about compatible Windows Phone 8.1 handsets that have yet to upgrade?

As reported by Paul Thurrott, Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar has clarified that this July 29 date doesn’t apply to the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade.

However, no other date is offered by Microsoft, which led Thurrott to wonder if it’ll end on March 2017 instead; after all, Windows 10 Mobile kind of only arrived in March this year.

In any case, Microsoft is now hard at work readying the Anniversary Update for Windows 10, which is due August 2. This giant update (confirmed to be version 1607) is expected to be released for both PC and mobile at the same time.
