LG Nexus 5 Leaked in Photos, Possible Launch on 31 Oct, Nexus 4 Reaches End of Life

An employee of a bar apparently managed to take some photos of the upcoming LG Nexus 5 when its owner, a Google employee, left the device charging unsupervised. Coincidentally, the Nexus 4 ran out of stock on the Play Store and a casemaker indicates that the Nexus 5 will be available on 31 October.

The bar is increasingly becoming a place for phone leaks as the LG Nexus 5 becomes the latest device to be photographed there.

According to 9to5Google, an employee at a bar managed to take several photos of the Nexus 5 when a Google employee left the phone charging unsupervised. The back of the Nexus 5 clearly bears the LG branding, and looks very similar to the rear of the Nexus 7 (2013). As the phone had a pattern screen lock, the employee was unable to get pass beyond the lock screen. The employee also took two very short videos of the device.

Hours after the photos and videos were leaked, The Verge reported that the current Nexus 4 has run out of stocks on the Google Play Store. A trusted source with knowledge of the company's plans told The Verge that Google has no plans to restock the Nexus 4.

Smartphone manufacturer Spigen posted a case for the Nexus 5 on Amazon, and indicates stock availability on 31 October. This hints that Google may announce the Nexus 5 on that day or earlier.

Based on the leaked photos and Spigen's render, the design of the Nexus 5 mirrors that of the LG G2 with the nearly edge-to-edge bezels. Previous rumors, however, suggest that Motorola will be the maker of the next Nexus phone.

The Nexus 5 is expected to be launched towards the end of October, as the Nexus 4 was announced on 29 October last year. It will run on Android 4.4 Kit Kat.
