LG could be the manufacturer of Google Pixel phones this year
LG could take over the job from HTC to help Google manufacture the Pixel phones this year.
A bug entry in the Android Issue Tracker might have revealed the manufacturer of this year's Pixel phones.
According to 9to5Google, a bug entry from March suggests that LG is manufacturing at least one of the two rumored Pixel phones. A Google staff apparently asked a LG employee to move the bug entry under Android > Partner > External > LGE > Taimen > power.
Taimen is said to be the code name for the successor of the Pixel XL. Referred by some as the Pixel XL2, some specs of the handset were revealed by a GFXBench listing a few days ago. It is stated to sport a 5.6-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage space.
HTC helped Google manufacture the current Pixel and Pixel XL phones last year after LG reportedly wanted to "focus on its own brand" and had no plans to build the next Google phone. Nonetheless, Google sees LG as "the best partner" in the Android ecosystem as both companies share "the same approach to the mobile device market". Therefore, it is no surprise if LG is indeed helping Google with the Pixel phones this year.
