While most Android flagship phones this year come with 120Hz displays, Apple may not be releasing the feature on the iPhone 12 Pro.
Lead analyst of DisplaySearch and DSCC Ross Young claims that the iPhone 12 Pro is likely to launch with a 60Hz display. While Apple is reportedly able to secure 120Hz Pro panels, it is unable to do so for the 120Hz driver ICs. Young said Apple has three options: come up with a fix, wait for 120Hz driver ICs or launch with a 60Hz display. The first option is expected to be very challenging while the second option could delay the launch significantly.
Tipster @jon_prosser also shared recently that Apple is still testing the iPad Pro-like "ProMotion" display on the iPhone 12 Pro, but he is not sure if the feature will make it to launch. In another tweet, he claimed to have "seen too much evidence to be certain" that it will not be coming to the iPhone 12 Pro.
Apple has been rumoured to be bringing the 120Hz display to the iPhone 12 Pro. Tipster Ice Universe said in June that the iPhone 12 Pro will have Super Retina XDR displays with 120Hz ProMotion technology and 10-bit colour depth. Max Weinbach shared in his video that the iPhone 12 Pro models will dynamically switch between 60Hz and 120Hz to conserve battery life.
