The Galaxy Note 8 might not have an on-screen fingerprint sensor

A Samsung official reportedly told Korean publication Naver that the Galaxy Note 8 would not have an on-screen fingerprint sensor.

The upcoming Galaxy Note 8 might not come with an on-screen fingerprint sensor after all.

According to Korean publication Naver, a Samsung official reportedly claimed that "a display-integrated fingerprint sensor" would not be installed on the Galaxy Note 8 due to "various technical limitations such as security". The official added that Samsung would continue to work with other companies such as CrucialTec in research and development on such technologies.

It seems that Samsung is still unable to overcome the time constraints and technological barriers that led to a last minute decision to place the fingerprint sensor on the rear of the Galaxy S8 models. Just two weeks ago, a purported dummy unit of the Galaxy Note 8 suggested the presence of an on-screen fingerprint sensor. The Naver also reported that the Galaxy Note 8 would be unveiled on 8 September, which contradicts the Korea Herald's claim of a late August launch.
