Apple to rename Force Touch on upcoming iPhones to 3D Touch Display?
9to5Mac reports that Apple is likely to call the pressure-sensitive technology on its new iPhones the "3D Touch Display". The technology is said to be an upgraded version of that found on the Apple Watch and trackpads of MacBooks.
The 3D Touch Display of upcoming Apple iPhones is said to be able to sense three levels of pressure compared to two on the Apple Watch and MacBook.
Apple is reported to be giving its new pressure sensitive technology on its upcoming iPhones a fancy name.
According to 9to5Mac, sources familiar with the new iPhones claim that Apple is likely to brand it as "3D Touch Display" and it is for a good reason. Unlike the current Force Touch technology on the Apple Watch and trackpads of MacBooks, the "3D Touch Display" is able to differentiate three levels of pressure (a tap, a press and a deeper press) which will open up the possibilities of having new touch interface interaction. The "3D Touch Display" is also alleged to be making its way to the much fabled 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro.
9to5Mac previously reported how the pressure-sensitive technology will work on the new iPhones. For example, a long press on a word will help the user get its definition while a similar gesture on a point of interest in Maps can enable turn-by-turn directions.
Apple is holding one of its biggest launch events in its history on 9th September when it is expected to launch new iPhones, a new Apple TV and new iPads.
