Analyst expects the Note7's demise to benefit Apple and Huawei
With the Samsung Galaxy Note7 no longer in production, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that consumers will choose to purchase a smartphone from Apple and Huawei.
As Samsung has ended the production of the Galaxy Note7, consumers have to look to other brands when buying a new smartphone. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that two brands will benefit - Apple and Huawei.
According to his estimates, about 5 to 7 million ex-Note7 orders will be converted into iPhone 7 and 7 Plus sales. The iPhone 7 Plus will be the hot favorite due to its dual-camera module. With consumer confidence in the Samsung brand at an all-time low, consumers will consider iOS as a compelling alternative.
The other half of ex-Note7 orders will be split among other Android manufacturers although Huawei is expected to benefit the most. Given Huawei's momentum in the smartphone market this year, it is in a good position to attract Android users to its camp. If Kuo's estimates turn out to be accurate, Samsung could lose more than US$2.34 billion in operating profits. Samsung is said to be considering to launch the Galaxy S8 earlier to offset the decline in sales of the Galaxy Note7.
