2017 to be a "tremendous brand and confidence rebuilding year" for Samsung
Samsung's North America CEO Gregory Lee shared that 2017 will be a "tremendous brand and confidence rebuilding" year for the company following the recall of the Galaxy Note7.
The Samsung branding has taken a massive hit after the Galaxy Note7 saga and the company knows that regaining consumer confidence in its products would be a tall order.
At the GSMA Mobility Live conference in Atlanta, Samsung's North America CEO Gregory Lee acknowledged that the company has much to do to regain consumer, telcos and government trust in its brand. He also shared on the progress of the product recall and how the company has been working hard to make the process smooth for its customers.
“We are 80 percent (of the way through the recall),” Samsung Electronics’ North America CEO Gregory Lee said during a fireside chat with AT&T Mobility CEO Glenn Lurie. “Our employees have been working 24/7 for the last 50 days to try to make this happen."
Samsung has come under fire for its handling of the Galaxy Note7 saga; the state broadcaster CCTV slammed the company for its discriminatory policy which could lead to a "trust crisis". The brand took a further hit after a Galaxy Note7 user claimed that Samsung tried to bribe him to keep his video of his exploding device private. Several authorities including the South Korean Testing Laboratory (KTL) have stepped in to assist and carry out their own investigations.
While it has rolled out exchange and refund programs for customers in global markets, Samsung is said to be considering other compensation or cash incentives to pacify Note7 customers. The company has launched the Galaxy Upgrade program in South Korea where Note7 users only need to pay half the price of the S7 or S7 edge to exchange for a Galaxy S8 or Note8.
