Investigation Conclusion and Corrective Actions

According to Sony, its investigation concluded that “the manufacturing process may cause a failure of the circuit board in a small number of Xperia 1 VII smartphones, which could potentially result in power issues.”

The company also shared that it has taken the following measures to safely resume sales:

  • Immediately changing the manufacturing process
  • Successfully identifying all affected phones and providing updates to affected customers
  • Proactively contacting customers who bought their phone directly from Sony

Sony is strengthening quality control for Xperia phones with a new management system designed to ensure stringent checks throughout the manufacturing process. This system has been deployed to the Xperia 1 VII replacement units and new units currently on sale, with plans to expand it to all future Xperia devices.
