A Day with the Lumia 920

Almost gone are the days where people bother carrying a point-and-shoot camera. But then again, why should we when there are smartphone devices that are good enough for casual shots? Case in point: the Nokia Lumia 920. Before we start flooding you with photos taken with the device, here's a quick rundown of the device's key specs:

  • 4.5-inch Pure Motion HD+ display, 768 x 1280 resolution
  • 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual core processor
  • 8.7-megapixel camera with Pureview technology
  • 32GB mass memory with 7GB free SkyDrive storage
  • 2000mAh battery with integrated Qi wireless charging
In a nutshell: 8.7-megapixel camera at the back with f/2.0 lens and 1.2-megapixel camera on the front with f/2.4 lens.

In fact, we liked the phone's camera quite a bit that we decided put together a small montage of photo from one of our casual morning shoots. Do note that these photos were taken on Auto mode and without changes to the default camera settings. To snap a photo, you either lightly tap on the touch screen on the area you want focused or press and release the shutter button located on the phone's right profile - most of the time we relied on the former since it is simply just more convenient unless the phone's in sleep mode.

As a point of reference for the Lumia 920's excellent low-light performance, we have taken similar shots on the Galaxy S III as well. Both were shot on Auto with no flash.

We hope you have enjoyed some of the sample shots that we have taken with the Lumia 920. As you can tell, it's decent enough to match up against a traditional compact camera and the Lumia 920 should fare well for quick casual shots. However dedicated cameras will last you a lot longer for extended shooting, so they're not quite sidelined yet.
