Apple is reportedly exploring two ways to boost iPhone Air appeal

Will these changes be enough to spur consumer demand for the next iPhone Air?

Apple is reportedly considering two changes to increase the appeal of the next iPhone Air.

According to The Information, Apple plans to add a second rear camera to the iPhone Air 2. One of the main criticisms of the iPhone Air is its single 48MP Fusion main camera, which limits shooting flexibility in everyday scenarios. By adding a second rear camera, especially an ultra-wide lens, alongside the main camera, Apple could significantly expand the next iPhone Air’s photography capabilities and address a common pain point for users.

Pricing is the second area Apple is believed to be re-evaluating. With the current model starting at S$1,599, the iPhone Air offers limited value beyond its ultra-slim design when compared to the standard iPhone 17. The latter delivers a more balanced package, including a longer battery life, support for the conventional nano-SIM card, and optical zoom options. A lower entry price for the iPhone Air 2 could help make these trade-offs more acceptable to consumers.

These potential changes come amid reports that Apple is struggling to sell the iPhone Air. Production volumes are said to have been cut significantly, reflecting weaker-than-expected demand. Apple is not alone in facing this challenge; Samsung has reportedly encountered similar issues for the Galaxy S25 Edge and appears to have shelved plans for a succesor. This underscores the limited consumer appetite for ultra-slim flagship phones.
