Would a dual-camera setup make the next-generation iPhone Air more appealing?

The next-generation Apple iPhone Air could get a second rear camera.

Sources within Apple’s supply chain claim that Apple is exploring a rear dual-camera setup for the next iPhone Air. The second camera is believed to be a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera that would sit alongside the main camera in the horizontal camera plateau.

Adding a second camera might not be as straightforward as it seems. To achieve the ultra-slim design, Apple houses several components in the camera plateau to maximise space for the battery. Therefore, Apple would likely need to rethink the internal layout to accommodate the ultra-wide lens.

The Apple iPhone Air has a single rear camera. While the camera’s performance is great, the lack of an ultra-wide option could be a drawback for users who frequently take landscape or group photos, particularly when travelling.

The omission of an ultra-wide lens becomes even more noticeable when compared with the competition. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge offers a 12MP ultra-wide camera despite being only 0.2mm thicker, while Motorola’s 5.99mm Edge 70 manages to pack in three rear cameras.

Adding a second rear camera could boost the appeal of the next iPhone Air, as Apple is reportedly struggling to sell the iPhone Air. Apple is expected to unveil the next iPhone Air in the second half of 2026.
