At the 9 July 2025 Galaxy Unpacked keynote in New York, Samsung announced its headlining book-style foldable, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7.
Besides the expected software updates, below are the key changes and additions to the Galaxy Z Fold7 that help to make the phone reach new Samsung heights.
4.2mm unfolded

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is the slimmest book-style folding iteration by the Koreans so far. It measures 4.2mm thin when unfolded, adding up to a mere 8.9mm when clasped together.
The 215g weight makes it lighter than some standard bar-type phones (like the 227g Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max and 218g Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra). As it turns out, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge was a warning shot that heralded its improvements in the foldable space.
These aren’t only numbers sitting pretty for a folding phone. It is 0.1mm thicker than the recently announced Honor Magic V5, but being 2g lighter than Honor’s foldable makes Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 one of the lightest of its kind this year.

We are quite certain that users who are still holding on to a serviceable Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 (12.1mm, 239g) must be feeling the pinch now.
Slimmer body, bigger screen, battery retained

Despite the physical reduction, Galaxy Z Fold7’s main display is also now 11% larger (8-inch, Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 120Hz refresh rate, 2,600-nits peak brightness, Vision Booster included).
There was no loss of battery capacity, as the device retained the 4,400mAh battery from its previous generation.
Neither was its durability sacrificed. If anything, the Galaxy Z Fold7 has become tougher in multiple ways.

A new multi-rail structure helps disperse stress more evenly and reduce creasing visibility. Samsung calls it Armor FlexHinge.

A new Advanced Armor Aluminum used in its phone’s frame and hinge also increased the strength and hardness by another 10%, up from before.

The outer 6.5-inch Cover Screen (also 120Hz) is further protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. Inside, the folding Main Screen utilises a restructured Ultra-Thin Glass (50% thicker for enhanced toughness) that’s also reinforced by a new Titanium plate layer, according to Samsung’s claims.
A flagship beast to stifle its fiercest rivals

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 uses the same chipset that graced its Galaxy S25 Ultra: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. This is a processor customised for Samsung that takes the already overwhelming Snapdragon 8 Elite performance even further with higher-than-usual clock rates.
A critical piece of hardware improvement is the 200MP main camera, a first for Galaxy Z and bringing its pixel count on par with the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s main shooter. Samsung has finally listened to its fans (and seen the competition’s effort in this domain). You can shoot in pixel-binned 12.5MP mode for great lighting, or opt for the full 200MP photo if you want big, poster-worthy shots.

On the main display is a pin-hole 10MP camera for group selfies, which crucially uses the 8-inch panel as a viewfinder.
Other rear cameras remain, like its 12MP ultrawide (also a macro shooter) and 10MP telephoto camera (3x optical zoom).

Also new is 10-bit HDR support for video recording, along with an updated ProVisual Engine for improved image processing.
Software perks include Photo Assist, now with the ability to resize, re-angle, and rehome subjects (instead of simply erasing them). Removing distractions is now holistically combined into a single Suggest Erases button. Audio Eraser now features a convenient toggle, instead of relying only on sliders for adjusting.
A main perk of Galaxy Z Fold7 is that all these edits can be done side-by-side, while comparing to the original copy of the photo when editing via on the main display.
One UI 8 debut with stronger Galaxy AI integration

Not forgetting its AI capabilities, Galaxy Z Fold7 will come with One UI 8 (based on Android 16) out of the box.
Gemini Live supports screen sharing, and the foldable form factor allows you to set the phone upright, enabling you to use Gemini Live to ask visual questions by having the cameras pointed at you and the objects you’re holding.
Circle To Search now has gaming compatibility, where circling in-game objects can fire up a visual search to get instant results (clues, game guides, tutorial videos) via the Circle To Search pop-up.
Additionally, Gemini utilises the large screen format by displaying results separately from the user’s original content, which facilitates easier drag-and-drop questions.
Other perks

Galaxy Z Fold7 has three configurations: 12GB RAM is paired with 256GB or 512GB storage, while the 16GB RAM variant comes with 1TB storage.
It retains the same IP48-rated resistance against dust and water, like its predecessor.
While its exact fast-charging speeds weren’t stated, Samsung said it can achieve up to a 50% charge in 30 minutes using its 25W charging adapter (not provided), which is also the same as the previous foldable.
The phone accepts dual Nano SIMs and multiple eSIMs. You also get the full works, like support for Wi-Fi 7, UWB connectivity, and Bluetooth 5.4.
