By now, phone fans and enthusiasts would have heard about the launch of Honor Magic V5. The smartphone brand announced the phone via its livestreamed keynote for the Chinese market.
In an update to the media, Honor said that Singapore marks the Honor Magic V5’s first overseas launch. Yay.
Recommended retail price of Honor Magic V5 in China.
In China, it has a starting price of CNY 8,999 (12GB RAM, 256GB storage), with two other configurations available: CNY 9,999 (16GB + 512GB) and CNY 10,999 (16GB + 1 TB).
That works out to ~S$1,599, ~S$1,777, and S$1,955 respectively, which is around the same pricing band as its previous two generations (Honor Magic V3 was S$1,999 for 512GB in Singapore, while Honor Magic V2 was also S$1,999 for 512GB).
Honor Magic V5’s S$2,199 local pricing is for the 512GB version, marking a S$200 increase from its predecessors and S$422 difference from its China models.
Batteries as thin as human hair
Note: The Singapore models come with a 5,820mAh silicon-carbon battery, and not the 6,100mAh battery seen in China.
Summary of all the Honor Magic V5 features.
A big selling point of Honor’s book-style foldable is its super slim design that’s graced their foldables for a few years now. This time around, Honor Magic V5 is 8.8mm folded (4.2mm unfolded) and 217g in weight. To understand how impressive this sounds, know that the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max is 10g heavier (227g) and almost as thick (8.25mm). Check out our early hands-on experience in this video:-

Helping to reduce space used in the phone is a contribution of several factors, but Honor pointed out that a key improvement is the battery. For the Chinese market, the phone’s 6,100mAh capacity is because each layer of its battery stack measures only 0.18mm — the width of a human hair.

Another material helping with its thin build is the “special fibre” also used in traction ropes that make up astronaut space suits, which is merely 0.014mm, forming its “golden soft silk armour” on the back of the phone. Honor said this material has 40x the impact resistance of before (likely referring to its previous foldable).
Finally, the Super Steel Hinge uses a combination of precision manufacturing and AI to make it highly detailed and slim, with an accuracy point of 0.03mm and 500 “feature points” across the entire folding joint.
Still a flagship phone within
Honor Magic V5’s displays, with the main 7.95-inch display on the inside (rightmost).
The Honor Magic V5 uses the full 8-core version of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, unlike the OPPO Find N5, which grappled with real estate and settled for a 7-core version.
Three full-focus cameras dot its rear, led by a 50MP main camera that’s accompanied with a 64MP periscope telephoto camera (3x optical zoom) and 50MP ultrawide. All cameras have a mix of perks like AI telephoto tuning, AI ultra-clear portrait, AI film simulation portrait, and AI Honor Hawkeye for continuous shooting.
Even the front display gets protected with an improved glass type.
The IP58 and IP59-rated body (for dust and water resistance) still features a 5,000-nit peak brightness main display (7.95 inches). It’s also properly kitted out with 66W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. Covering the secondary display is a glass that comes with improved 10x drop resistance, 3x wear resistance, 15x scratch resistance and anti-bacterial coating, which is how Honor wants you to know the Magic V5 is really durable and not just for looks or functionality.
