Apple’s development of its rumoured foldable iPhone recently reached a key milestone, according to DigiTimes.

Supply chain sources told DigiTimes that the foldable iPhone reached the Prototype 1 (P1) stage last month. The milestone is significant as it marks the shift from a non-functional dummy unit to a working prototype for testing.

Assuming things go smoothly, Apple is expected to complete prototype testing by the end of 2025 and advance to the Engineering Vertification Test (EVT) stage. This development timeline could place a potential launch in the second half of next year.

The foldable iPhone is said to be part of “a major shake-up” for the iPhone lineup next year and will likely cost over S$3,000.

Rumours suggest that Apple’s foldable iPhone might look more like the Google Pixel Fold than the Galaxy Z Fold, and that it’ll come with a 5.49-inch cover display and a 7.74-inch main foldable display.

The foldable display is said to be one of the two key differentiating features. According to rumours, Apple managed to create a “crease-free” panel unlike existing foldable phones in the market. The other feature is the “much higher-quality hinge”, which is said to be made of liquid metal.
