Following Anker’s announcement of a recall involving five of its power bank models after discovering that their lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing serious fire and burn hazards to users, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reported that around 481,000 units in the United States alone are involved. The models affected are A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681, and A1689.

Consumers are being urged by the CPSC to immediately stop using these power banks. If you own one of the recalled models, Anker is offering a full cash refund or a gift card, depending on the region. To qualify for the recall, you’ll need to submit a clear photo of the product showing the model number, serial number, and the word “RECALLED” handwritten on the power bank. Anker will also give instructions on how to safely return or dispose of the item.

In Singapore, Anker has issued a recall notice specifically for models A1642 and A1647, which include the Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K) and Anker Power Bank 20K. The recall affects units from a single batch manufactured between January 3, 2024, and September 17, 2024. Even though the affected portion is small, Anker says it is conducting the recall out of “an abundance of caution.”

Owners of the Singapore-affected units are asked to verify their model and serial number (found on the bottom or side of the power bank). They should stop using the device immediately and fill in an online form to return it. Anker Singapore’s customer support can also be contacted via support@anker.com.sg.
