In early 2021, Spotify announced that it was working on a high-end lossless streaming tier for discerning listeners only to be beaten to the punch by Apple who quickly launched Apple Music Lossless just a few months later. And if that isn’t enough, Apple offers lossless quality music at no additional cost to its users.
It’s 2025 and Spotify has yet to announce its lossless streaming tier. Happily, that might change soon.
According to Bloomberg, Spotify could finally roll out a premium subscription plan later this year called “Music Pro” which would offer higher quality music streaming, AI-powered remixing, and other features such as exclusive access to concert tickets.
The report says pricing and timing have yet to be determined because Spotify is still working on securing rights from major music companies. However, it also added that fees will vary depending on region, but it's reasonable to expect it to cost US$5 to US$6 more.
Spotify is late to the lossless streaming party and its premium tier will need to be a lot more compelling than just lossless quality music to entice users.
